Support - Eudora Light 1.5.2

Eudora Light is an Internet mail application, which allows you to compose, check, read and send e-mail messages and attachments via the Internet.

Follow these instructions to be sure Eudora Light is set up properly: Open Eudora Light and click on the special menu and choose Settings. In the Category list on the left, click on each of the following and make the changes noted:

Getting Started

The POP Account should be username@mailhost.extremezone.com (in lower-case characters). Place your user name (log-in name) in place of "username" in front of the "@" symbol. Changing the POP Account information here will cause it to change in all the other categories. Type in your name of the name you want to appear along with your e-mail address in the Real Name box.

Personal Information

The POP Account and Real Name information is the same as above. In the Return Address box, type username@extremezone.com, replacing "username" with your user name (log-in name).

Hosts

The SMTP address is mailhost.extremezone.com. Leave the PH and Finger entries blank.

Checking Mail

The line labeled Check for mail every X minutes can be set to suit your personal preferences. This will cause Eudora to check mail automatically however often (in minutes) you state. Change the value to zero if you don't want it to check automatically. Set the Skip big messages and Send on check boxes to your preferences. Check Save Password if you don't want to type in your password each time you check your mail. Leave it unchecked if you don't want someone else reading your mail. If you check Leave mail on server, you mail will continue to take up more and more of your space on the server, eventually using it all up. Leaving this box unchecked will remove the mail from the server each time you check your mail. should be set to Password.

Sending Mail

The Return Address and SMTP Server are the same as in Personal Information. The remaining check boxes should all be checked to get the most out of Eudora's editing features. Refer to Eudora Light's manual for more information on what each option here does.

Note: If you want Eudora to automatically add signature text to the end of your out-going e-mail messages, you will need to have the Use Signatures box checked, then refer to the manual on using "signatures".

The default settings for this category should be adequate, but if you want Eudora to automatically delete and discard those messages you have trashed, check the Empty Trash when exiting box. If not, leave it unchecked.

Of the remaining categories, the default settings should be adequate for most users. Refer to the Eudora on-line help for more informatin on these settings.

How it works....

After you've configured Eudora, the first thing you'll probably want to do is check your mail. To do this, log on to Extreme Internet.

Open Eudora Light and click on the File menu. Choose Check Mail. It's that simple.

You should see a box detailing the progress of downloading your mail. If there are no messages, you should get a box that says Sorry You Have No New Messages, or something to that effect.

Your new messages will appear on the screen, in your Inbox, ready for you to read. Simply double click on the first message, and it will appear. After you read a message, you can do several things with it.

If you don't want the message, put in the trash can by clicking on the trash can icon while the message is open, or by highlighting the message on the Inbox screen and clicking on the trash can. If you decide that you don't want to dlete the message after all, just click on the Mailbox menu and choose Trash and it will show you which messages are in the trash. You can retrieve these trashed messages until you close down Eudora, at which time they will be deleted unless you change the settings mentioned earlier in this section.

If you want to reply to the message you're reading, click on the Reply arrow button (third from the left). This will automatically put in the recipient's address in the To: field on the reply, and will add your address in the Sender: field. All you have to do is type the reply. You'll notice that it also quoted the original message. You can edit this quoted text to remove the parts you don't need. When you're done and reay to dend it, just click on the Send button on right end of the icon bar.

If you want to forward the message you're reading in its entirety, while adding comments to it, click on the Foward arrow button (fourth from the right). You will have to type in the recipient's address on this one, though. Then type in whatever comments you wish, and click on the Send button to send it.

If you want to redirect the message you're reading without adding any comments, just click on the Redirect button and type in the name of the recipient. Click on Send when you're ready.

If you want to print the message you're reading, just click on the Print button, to the left of the Send button (providing you have a printer, of course).

If you decide you want to send a new message to someone, just click on the New message button (to right of the Trash button), fill in the recipient's address, put something appropriate in the Subject field, type in the message, then click on Send.

If it doesn't work...

The following are common error messages on Eudora Light:

Mail drop Lock - Occurs when your system crashes or locks up while using Eudora, and sometimes after receiving very large messages or attachments. If this occurs, call Extreme Internet Technical Support at (480)368-4638 ext. 5.

Cannot Find Host - Occurs when you are not logged into Extreme Internet properly, or when your connection has been lost. Generally, you need only log off and log back in. Otherwise, check the SMTP server address in Settings (as decribed previously in this section).

Eudora is now configured to receive e-mail from your Extreme Internet account.  If you have a dedicated or DSL connection, you will automatically retrieve your e-mail from the Extreme Internet mail server when you launch Eudora.  If you have a dial-up connection, you will have to connect to the Internet first, then launch Eudora and receive your e-mail.

If you have any difficulties in configuring your e-mail, please don't hesitate to call Technical Support at 480-368-4638 (ext. 5).
